“One of the great mistakes is to judge policies and programs by their intentions rather than their results.” ~ Milton Friedman
One would think that will all the legislation passed under Obama that this campaign would be focusing on his record. But they aren’t, and neither is the media—again.
In 2008, Obama had no real political record to speak of, unless you think voting “present” 129 times as a state senator instead of taking a stand on tough issues is a record of success. The campaign was all hype and bumper sticker slogans, and the so-called “journalists” in our media did absolutely no vetting to expose his sordid past. And it was sordid.
In the 2008 election, the media did little to expose Obama’s ties to Reverend Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ and how Obama went to Wright’s church for 20 years listening to Wright spew hate filled sermons saying blacks should not sing God Bless America but “God damn America” and follow the “Black Value System.” In fact, Republican’s couldn’t even bring the issue up because any attack on Obama, due to his ties to Wright, would be viewed as racially insensitive—and stir up racist sentiments—and be too personal.
The media also didn’t bother to find out anything about Obama’s origins, formative years, or what his ideology is based on. If they had, they would have discussed Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis. It’s not as though this would have taken much journalistic investigation, Obama mentioned the man several times in his book, Dreams From My Father. Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. While Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his “poetry” and getting advice on his career path. Professor Gerald Horne, a contributing editor of the Communist Party journal Political Affairs, noted that Davis became the Obama’s mentor at the suggestion of a good friend. That friend was Paul Robeson, the well-known black actor and singer who served as a member of the Communist Party USA and apologist for the old Soviet Union.
Then there are his ties to William Ayers, one of the formative influences in Obama's political life. Ayers was also a pivotal member of the Weather Underground, a radical left-wing terrorist group first organized in 1969 with the goal of violently overthrowing of the US government. Their revolutionary positions were characterized by Black Liberation rhetoric and in 1970 the group issued a “Declaration of a State of War against the United States government.” Their violent actions include aiding in a jailbreak and escape of a criminal, causing a riot in Chicago, bombing the US Capitol on 1 March 1971, bombing the Pentagon on 19 May 1972, and bombing the US Department of State on 29 January 1975. On 20 October 1981 the group robbed a Brinks armored truck containing $1.6 million in Nanuet, New York and killed two police officers and a security guard. Bill Ayers was also the host of Obama's coming out political fundraiser party in 1995, gave Obama $150 million to head up education and the Annenberg Challenge, and introduced Obama to ACORN. ACORN is a scandalous political advocacy group that filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy after dozens of its workers were convicted of voter fraud in the 2008 and 2010 elections that continues to try to regroup under various identities.
Now running for reelection in 2012, Obama has a record. During his first term, Obama passed several landmark pieces of legislation and executive orders, which by most Presidential standards would be viewed as a success. There is just one problem. His polices FAILED.
Obama bailed out failing auto industry companies, like GM and Chrysler. He is apparently proud of the TAXPAYER-FUNDED government intervention that he claims “rescued” the automakers in 2009, and he regularly takes credit for the companies’ new-found profitability and hiring as one of his top achievements. There is just one problem. GM stock shares fell to a new low in 2012, the lowest since November 2010 following its June 2009 bankruptcy. The Treasury still owns 26.5% of GM and taxpayers are still out $26.4 billion in direct aid. That leaves taxpayers with roughly a loss of $16.6 billion. Additionally, while Obama claims his bailout of GM helped save Americans jobs, GM’s own annual report shows that at the start of the year, they only had 74,500 jobs in the US, and 122,500 abroad—in Canada, Mexico, and overseas. In other words, about two thirds of GMs jobs are outsourced to other countries with US taxpayer money. Thanks Obama.
Today, 15.1% of American’s are now living in poverty; there have been 6.8 million home foreclosures since Obama took office, and with 12,700,000 unemployed Americans—unemployment is at 8.2 %. In fact, after three years with unemployment topping 8%, the Congressional Budget Office confirmed that the US has seen the longest period of high unemployment since the Great Depression under Obama’s watch. Thanks Obama.
That’s not the only record Obama has. According to the Treasury Department, under Obama’s watch, the national debt has increased more than the debt accumulated by ALL 41 US Presidents from George Washington through George H.W. Bush COMBINED! Thanks Obama.
Lastly, under Obama’s watch, the federal government has been operating without any annual budgets. In fact, it’s been over 1,200 days and 5 trillion in new debt since the Democrat controlled Senate passed a budget (since they took majority control in 2006). In 2011, Obama actually did propose a budget. It was so embarrassing that even the Democrat controlled Senate voted against it—it failed unanimously with a 0-97 vote. This speaks volumes about Obama’s lack of leadership ability. He either can’t get one passed or doesn’t want one---neither of those options speaks well of his governance.
During the 2012 campaign, Obama wanted to deflect from his wealth of FAILURES by doing what he does best—blaming others. He wanted to run a scapegoating campaign against a “do nothing Congress” and activist Supreme Court Justices. There are just a few hiccups with that strategy. As previously noted, the Democrats have controlled the Senate since 2006. Despite Republicans winning back control of the House in 2010, Senate Majority leader Harry Reid has routinely blocked Republican bill proposals. Obama can’t claim obstructionist Republicans are to blame when his own party is doing the blocking. Likewise, in two landmark Supreme Court case rulings, the Justices upheld key provisions in Obama’s healthcare bill and favored his Justice Department’s case against Arizona’s illegal immigrant bill. Obama essentially got what he wanted despite all respectable polls showing American’s are against Obamacare and supported Arizona’s illegal immigration law.
Obama’s 2012 campaign is evidence of a flailing, desperate man who is trying to cling to power. His ads are pure lies. Who honestly believes Obama’s claim that Republicans are running on a platform advocating for, “Dirtier air, dirtier water, less people with health insurance”? In the last few weeks, Obama and the liberals have made some wild accusations and endorsed some outright irresponsible ads claiming Romney is a tax cheat and a felon. Most despicably, Obama backers put out an ad claiming Romney was responsible for the cancer death of a woman--an ad that PolitiFact rated as "pants-on-fire" false and the Washington Post rated as “four Pinocchios,” the maximum rating.
I’ve listened to Obama this campaign season, and with all the negative campaign ads and lies, I can honestly say I don’t know what he’s running on. He’s not talking about his failed record, and quite honestly, if he couldn’t find success when he and his party controlled the White House, the House of Representatives and the Senate, then why bother giving him four more years to plunge this country deeper into despair.
I don’t know what Obama’s running on, he’s just running on empty, running blind, and running behind.
